…And it won’t always work, though it feels great when it does!
I enjoy what I do as a job—if you can call it that. For me, I’ve come to the realisation that it means cutting through the surface and speaking from the heart. This honesty certainly sharpens the quality of interactions, saves time, and builds genuine connections—after all, who doesn’t want to drop the facade and simply be yourself?
While showing a home recently, I sensed the buyer wasn’t feeling it. The hesitation was clear, so I stopped and asked, “Is this the one?” When resistance lingered, I said, “Look, I can see this isn’t ticking the boxes. Let’s start again, walk back through, and let’s get objective.”
That shifted the energy. The buyer felt safe, not pressured, and we had an open and direct conversation about the property’s pros and cons. While the buyer didn’t purchase that house, we built a trusting relationship. The next day, I matched the home with another buyer who loved it, and the original buyer is now working with me, and we’ve found a better fit and a house to sell in the process.
The takeaway? Leading with honesty and heart creates success for everyone involved. The connections formed through openness may not always yield immediate results, but the ripple effects lead to meaningful outcomes.
And of course, most importantly, respect is reciprocal. By simply being yourself and showing respect to another by speaking from the heart, we get the same in return.
